- PhD and Post-Doctoral Fellowships, United Nations University, Japan: Each year, the UNU Institute of Advanced Studies offers Ph.D. and Postdoctoral fellowships to provide young scholars and policymakers — especially those from the developing world — with a multidisciplinary context within which to pursue advanced research and training that is of professional interest to the successful applicant and of direct relevance to the research agenda of UNU. Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 UNU-IAS Fellowship Programmes. These fellowships will begin on 1 September 2012 and Fellows will be resident at UNU-IAS in Yokohama or the UNU-IAS operating unit in Kanazawa, Japan, for the full term of the fellowship. - 2012 POGO-SCOR Visiting Fellowship scheme: The scheme is designed to promote training and capacity building leading towards a global observation scheme for the oceans. Priority is given to applicants in early stages of career development. The fellowship offers the opportunity to visit other oceanographic centres for a short period (1 to 3 months) for training on any aspect of oceanographic observations, analyses, and interpretation. It provides financial support to cover the return airfare from the fellow's home country to the host institution, and a contribution towards accommodation and subsistence for the period of the visit. - UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Fellowships for young researchers. This programme offers a total of 20 research scholarships valued between US$6,000 to US$10,000 each. The scholarships are awarded to post-graduate university researchers (holding a Masters degree or an equivalent qualification) in one of four fields: environment (with particular emphasis on Water Sciences), intercultural dialogue, information and communication technologies, and peaceful conflict resolution. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Targeting researchers from outside Germany with above average qualifications at the beginning of their academic careers and only completing their doctorate in the last 4 years. A Georg Forster or Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral or experienced researchers allows fellows to carry out a long-term research project (6-24 months), selected in co-operation with an academic host at a research institution in Germany. Scientists and scholars from all disciplines from developing and threshold countries are invited to apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation directly at any time with a research proposal. The research must address issues of relevance to the future development of your country of origin and, in this context, promise to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and methods to developing and threshold countries. Up to 60 Georg Foster Research Fellowships are awarded annually and up to 600 Humboldt Research Fellowships. Short-term study visits, participation in congresses and training courses cannot be financed.
