- COP17 Reflections: A discussion meeting convened by UCT's African Climate & Development Initiative, the Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership, and Sustainable Energy Africa. Bringing together a diverse panel of participants from the recent COP 17 in Durban to provide insight into what went on, and explore the implications of the outcomes of the COP for global, African, South African and Western Cape contexts. - Colloquium on the Frontiers of Ecosystem Service Science: call for abstracts. All young scientists (2nd year Masters, PhD students, or recent graduates or Post-docs) interested in the science of ecosystem services and social-ecological systems are invited to submit an abstract to take part in a Colloquium on the Frontiers of Ecosystem Service Science on the 7 February 2012 in Stellenbosch. For details of the event see the Call for Abstracts. Applicants are asked to submit the Application Form (including an abstract) by 5 December 2011.
- Green Campus SA 2012: Green Campus SA 2012 (19-20 January 2012), to be held at the NMMU George campus, Saasveld, will initiate the conversation about the role of universities in education for sustainable development. It is intended to assist in demystifying the issue of sustainability in academic institutions and will challenge campuses to become research laboratories and examples of sustainable living for the community and its students. - Fynbos Forum 2012: Dates have been confirmed for next year's event - 16 -19 July 2012. Venue: Cape Snt Francis. Theme: East meets West: transcending political, ecological and social boundaries in the fynbos. More details to follow.
- Frontiers in South African Ornithology: BirdLife South African and the Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology will be hosting an ornithological conference in Port Elizabeth on 15 &16 March 2012. This conference will be of interest to ornithology students, professional ornithologists, citizen scientists and bird-watchers. The deadline for registraton and the submission of abstracts for papers/posters is 18 February 2012. Note that the conference precedes Flock 2012 (BirdLife South Africa’s AGM) on 17 March, and people are encouraged to attend.
