- MSc Conservation and Biodiversity Scholarships: The Centre for Ecology and Conservation is pleased to offer an annual fees-only scholarship to one student from each of Africa, Asia and Latin America.These are highly competitive awards: students must demonstrate an extremely high academic standard and must show prior commitment to the field of biodiversity conservation. Evidence must be produced as to means of self support during the one year period of study. Full details of the scholarship can be found on the Exeter website. The deadline for applications is Monday 2 April 2012.
- Call for proposals from graduate students, The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) 2012 Young Researchers Award. This prize intends to foster innovative research and discovery in biodiversity informatics. Two awards of €4,000 will be available to graduate students in a master’s or doctoral programme at a university in a GBIF Voting Participant or Associate Participant country. Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the Head of Delegation of a GBIF Voting or Associate Participant country. Students are encouraged to contact their academic advisors, the GBIF national node in their country or members of the Science Committee regarding the deadline for proposal submissions at the national level. The deadline to receive nominations from the Heads of Delegation is 15 March 2012. - Postdoctoral and Doctoral Bursary Opportunities: CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) unit conducts world-class, directed inter-disciplinary research and technological innovation, with partners and stakeholders, in the field of natural resources and the environment to contribute to the social, economic and environmental improvement of South Africa and Africa. - SANParks Social Science Student Support: The SANParks Social Science Student Support Programme is a multi-year programme that supports tertiary learning and research. South African National Parks (SANParks)’s operations, including conservation management and research involves a number of professions that relate to fields of study offered by the University of Pretoria (UP). SANParks has identified the need to support previously disadvantaged students by assisting their studies at the UP. Click here for more information.

- PhD funding opportunity for research on: ‘‘Response of C3 and C4 grasses to fire and herbivory”. Bursary of Rd 95,000 per year for 3 years. - The Raptor Research Foundation - Stephen R. Tully Memorial Grant: Given to support research, and conservation of raptors especially to students and amateurs with limited access to alternative funding. One grant of US$ 500 is made per year. - The Panthera Kaplan Graduate Awards (KAP) is a scholarship program that supports the conservation efforts of outstanding young biologists working on wild felids in situ. We encourage applications for projects on all wild cat species in all regions. Awards vary up to $25,000 per annum. Awards are for one year but may be extended to subsequent years, contingent upon performance and results. The KAP is designed to support projects on wild cats with a conservation focus and must include a significant in situ component. - Netherlands Fellowship Programme: Master's degree programmes, Short courses, PhD studies. The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are designed to promote capacity building within organisations in 61 countries (including South Africa) by providing training and education to mid-career staff. The NFP offers fellowships to mid-career professionals. The fellowship is a supplement to the candidate’s salary and a contribution towards the expenses related to the course or study programme. Before applying, you must have been unconditionally admitted by a Dutch institution to one of the Master’s degree programmes or Short courses on the 2012-2013 course list, or have agreed upon a PhD research proposal with the Dutch institution. - Masters in Conservation Leadership, University of Cambridge, UK. The MPhil degree is a full-time, 1-year course aimed at graduates of leadership potential with at least three to five years of relevant experience in biodiversity conservation. The Miriam Rothschild Scholarship Programme in Conservation Leadership has been established to support students from less developed and developing countries that are rich in biodiversity, to attend the course. The number and size of these will vary from full scholarships, to partial scholarships that cover specific aspects of the funding package required by students. Applications for entry and scholarship support now welcome for entry to the course in October 2012. The closing date for applications is 30 March 2012. See Poster and Advert for more details.
- Bertha Scholarship for MBA: The Bertha Scholarship is a competitive scholarship for the full time MBA at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business for those candidates who are working on market-based and business solutions to social and environmental challenges in emerging markets, and in particular in Africa. - Bee Diversity and Distribution, MSc Bursary: Candidates with a BSc (hons) degree, majors in Entomology and/or Zoology, and experience with GIS would be an advantage, are invited to apply. The project aims to investigate bee diversity in the savannah biome and to use Spatial Data Analysis and Ecological Niche Modelling to predict the distributions of bees in the savannah biome. - The WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarships (PBS) are awarded to individuals from East and South who wish to pursue formal studies or professional training in the field of conservation.The PBS supports mid-career training (up to a maximum of one year) for individuals working in the field of conservation or associated disciplines directly relevant to the delivery and promotion of conservation.
